Some of us think that self-driving cars will end Uber. which makes sense, cause we won't need the middleman anymore. So the stock will take a hit.
But Uber just announced a robotaxi deal in Munich. And the detail few noticed is that it's built to work with any carmaker. Not Uber's own. That only makes sense if Uber plans to stay the platform you book rides through, no matter who builds the actual car. They don't want to make robots. They want to stay the toll booth every robot drives through.
And right now, a big chunk of your fare goes to the human driver. That's Uber's highest cost. When the human is replaced by the robot, Uber keeps the bigger slice of the same ride.
