How do people pick stocks?

Genuinely asking. I've watched videos, read articles, and I still can't figure out how anyone has conviction on a specific stock.

Like when someone says "I'm buying NVDA," are they just pattern-matching off vibes? Are they reading 10-Ks? Running DCF models? It seems impossible to know more than what's already priced in.

Maybe the answer is just... don't pick stocks yourself? I've been looking at ways to essentially outsource that decision to someone with actual edge, like platforms that let you follow a specific investment manager's actual live portfolio. Curious if anyone actually does this.
