It seems many cannot grasp the bigger picture here.
This war is not by coincidence, it's not some ignorant failed plan.
The strait being closed is a power move for USA, it causes tensions globally which destabilizes other countries far worse. Remember, the largest oil producer in the world is the USA.
So who benefits the most if prices are high? Who suffers the least if prices are high?
This causes the petro dollar to remain relevant, this is all about the petro dollar continuing to hold its grasp around the world. The petro dollar is the most important factor here.
There's such little mention of how even CN just agreed to purchase US oil and beef, this deal wouldn't have been made if the strait was open.
There are many angles in play for USA which benefit from the strait's instability.
Saudi needs barrels above $80-$90 to balance their national budget, this repairs relationships between Saudi and US without needing to do any other work but allow instability. This hits Russia's shadow fleet making their European buyers see middle east oil supply chains as unreliable, making US 20 year contracts look much safer. This applies pressure to CN and opens up trade which is already working.
The middle east remaining unstable keeps the dollar's role as the only safe settlement currency, protecting the petro dollar. There's little reason to open the strait for now or put boots on the ground. Simply keep the gridlock and keep buying time as the pain rises for everyone else far worse. Then utilize the pain as leverage. It's actually genius.
