Why I stopped mindlessly buying every dip in 2026

After going through a few market cycles, I’ve stopped automatically buying every **8-12%** dip like I used to.
Too many times I averaged down into companies with weakening fundamentals, rising competition, or slowing growth; all because **it’s on sale**. The result was mediocre returns and a lot of dead capital sitting in declining positions. These days I only add to positions when there’s a clear catalyst, improving financials, and a real margin of safety. Otherwise, I keep dry powder and wait. Blind dip-buying might feel productive, but it’s often just slow portfolio decay.
Has anyone else become significantly more selective with **buy the dip** opportunities this year?
