S&P and NASDAQ have erased 7 months of gains in 3 weeks.. so why buy and hold?

The S&P and NASDAQ have erased 7 months of gains in 3 weeks.. so why buy and hold?

I don't get the idea at all. I was up a lot on two positions in PLTR and APP that got wiped out in about 2 months to start the year. I still made a very good amount of money on it, but LOST nearly 3x the amount I could have made instead of just , "holding and relying on fundamentals".

I guess the point of this thread is to just emphasize the idea of just putting money into the S&P or whatever DEPENDING ON WHEN YOU START, is just not right. With algorithms and trades working the way they do, so many traders are just unwinding trades a lot quicker than the long term holders.
