BWXT just may be the most overlooked Ai infrastructure play with a steady stream of defense contracts and an unmatched moat.

$BWXT

BWX Technologies makes the reactors and fuel for the entire U.S. nuclear Navy, every Virginia-class submarine, every Columbia-class boat, every carrier in the fleet. There is no competitor in this aspect. The regulatory and security barriers in naval nuclear propulsion are so prohibitive this isn't really a market, it's a 70-year structured government relationship. That's the foundation. What's happened recently is what makes this interesting right now.

East Tennessee Is Becoming Ground Zero for U.S. Nuclear Infrastructure

Within weeks of each other in late 2025, BWXT signed two nine-figure programs in East Tennessee that most people completely missed. In Erwin, BWXT was awarded a $1.5 billion DOE/NNSA contract to build a uranium enrichment pilot plant at its Nuclear Fuel Services site which was initially producing low-enriched uranium for defense missions before being repurposed for naval propulsion fuel. (Markets Daily) They're also committing $122 million to expand the Erwin facility itself and started construction of a centrifuge manufacturing plant in Oak Ridge to support it. NFS has operated in Erwin since the 1950s and is the only facility of its kind supplying naval nuclear fuel to the U.S. government and it's growing every year.

In Jonesborough, BWXT landed a 10-year, $1.6 billion NNSA contract to produce up to 300 metric tons of high purity depleted uranium annually — and once operational, it will be the only active site in the country capable of performing this process. There's a minor local rezoning dispute surrounding this expansion, but BWXT has confirmed the facility gets built regardless, within existing industrial zoning if necessary. (Simply Wall St) The contract is signed. This is happening.

The Numbers

These Tennessee programs stack on top of an already loaded balance sheet. BWXT entered 2026 with a record $7.3 billion backlog, commercial backlog up 85% year-over-year, and full-year 2025 revenue of $3.2 billion — up over 18%. (StockAnalysis) They've also collected $2.1 billion and $2.6 billion in separate naval reactor component contracts over the past 18 months, with delivery windows stretching 6-8 years out. These aren't projections. They're contracted revenue with the U.S. government.

Beyond defense, BWXT is actively winning SMR component work, TRISO fuel contracts, NASA nuclear propulsion programs, and their medical isotope business crossed $100 million in annual revenue growing 20%. Multiple real businesses, not press release vaporware.

Bear Case

Valuation is stretched and it may be priced in, this isn't a value stock and hasn't been for a while. Defense appropriations risk is real. The convertible note issuance should be watched closely.

TLDR

The AI power demand problem is real, nuclear is the answer, and the policy environment is the most favorable it's been in 40 years. BWXT is the only company with the infrastructure, the clearances, and the existing government relationships to capture the majority of that spending. The Tennessee expansions alone represent a fundamental step-change in their manufacturing footprint, not incremental growth. I believe their moat that's largely undefeatable will continue to win them military contracts and fuel contracts for SMRs etc. If the Ai boom continues they'll benefit massively and if it doesn't they have guarenteed income regardless for up to 8 years out with new contracts signed frequently. I plan to mainly stack shares of the following months as this is a high conviction play for me. Please debunk if possible or confirm my suspicions as there is always a chance its fully priced in.
