This tweet from Nick Maggiuli made me spin my mind for a while.
I'd go for the portfolio over the house and keep the liquidity and flexibility. My current portfolio returns 12% per year. On a yearly basis, it would return me at least $300k per year, if all goes well. I could buy a house that is less expensive, and yet still, all the expenses will be covered. I'd be happy and not be overly flooded with material things I wouldn't need. And still have the portfolio we worked hard for and enjoy retirement. Why not have both things working for us?
So, what would you choose?
