I have a vague idea about why stock markets closed on weekends. It’s because it was a physical job at one point that somebody had to track the things, and I know there was a freak out that made us freeze the markets because people counted things wrong back during the stock crash.
Now that we have computers though, why is the stock market ever closed?
There’s no somebody that has to be there at Saturday at 2 AM, swapping out ticket numbers, and prices. So I’m genuinely curious how the hell we are still using such an antiquated system, and what the benefits of it could possibly be.
The most I hear people talking about the stock market freezing is when it gets stuck on a weekend and then the conversation picks up on Monday. It adds nothing as far as I can tell.
