Bitcoin is down 25% since January and now tariffs are making it worse
Trump announced over the weekend that he's raising the global tariff rate to 15%, using a 1974 trade law after the Supreme Court struck down his previous "Liberation Day" tariffs. The move spooked markets and crypto got hit hard. Bitcoin dropped 3% to around $65,800 Monday morning, briefly dipping below $65,000. Ethereum fell 4.5% and XRP dropped 3.3%. Meanwhile gold was up 1.6%, which is starting to make the whole "Bitcoin is digital gold" narrative look a bit shaky when the two keep moving in opposite directions during risk-off periods.
