Depression is the biggest and leading cause of disability and years of quality life lost around the world. Unlike other aspects of medicine, we have not made much progress in treating depression. Our best options are antidepressants like SSRI’s which do not even work in half the patients, and is similar to putting bandage on a gunshot wound. We also got ketamine recently (courtesy of johnson and Johnson) which recently got approved, will give you relief for few days and then depression is back again until you keep shelling money into those expensive ketamine parlours. Despite that, J and J is making billions of dollars from ketamine in the US alone. 330 million people suffer from depression and rates are rising at a high rate and the currently approved treatments are not making a dent. I am sure everybody knows someone who has or is battling depression.

This new drug Comp 360 ( actually very old in nature, fancy name of chemical found in magic mushrooms 🍄) has shown statistical and clinically significant improvement in the most severe patients with depression (TRD) who have already failed 2 or more gold standard antidepressants( Imagine what it can do in much milder patients)

I mean who wouldn’t wanna try magic mushrooms, especially if their life is very very sad. the people in the field are all talking about it but I do not think, people outside psychiatry have much idea about them Being this close to being approve.
