Hi everyone,
My knowledge of investing is very limited and I'm humbly asking for some insight or help with a stock I purchased in December of 2023. Also, I know chase is terrible for a self directed account, I plan on moving everything to a different bank soon.
In Dec 2023, I bought 108 Shares of SAVE (Spirit Airlines) stock for $15.16 a share, for a total of $1637.27. I bought these shares thinking the Spirit Airlines and JetBlue merger was going to be approved. Needless to say, it was not approved and the SAVE stock immediately tanked. I didn't touch the stock after that because I just didn't know what to do with it.
Fast forward to Nov 2024, Spirit files for bankruptcy and the ticket changed from SAVE to SAVEQ per my monthly statements. SAVEQ stays on my monthly statements until Feb 2025 where it last appears with a value of $0.47 a share for a total of $50.76. SAVEQ no longer appears on my March 2025 statement.
Full disclosure, I asked chatGPT how to handle this for my 2025 taxes and it said to call chase and make sure the stock is marked as a worthless secuirty and they should provide me with and 1099-B. I called chase and the rep said they could not neither of those things and I just had to work it out with my tax person. Is this true? Should I call and ask again? How should I proceed?
Thank you to any guidance anyone can provide.
