Calculation of RSU profit for annual tax settlement

Hi everyone, I'm completely new here and I need some help from fellow redditors who actually understand about taxes, unlike me. Please be patient, my question is probably about to be very basic and unintelligent.

I work at a company that provides RSUs. Last September, 50 RSUs vested, and automatically 12 were sold to cover withholding tax. A couple of days later, I sold the remaining 38 RSUs.

I'm doing the annual tax settlement for 2025 on my own this year, and since I've sold RSUs it's getting slightly messier than usual (for me, at least). My documents show that 50 shares were deposited, but I actually got to sell only 38 due to 12 being sold to cover withholding tax.

Here comes the basic question. For tax settlement purposes, I was asked to provide the amount related to profit. My guess is that profit should be calculated as:

Amount received by shares sold – Cost of shares purchased (distributed).

And that in this calculation, the cost of shares distributed should be of 38 shares, instead of the 50 originally received (due to 12 being sold for WHT). That is, the profit of 38 shares sold should be calculated against the cost of 38 shares distributed (not 50), regardless of the dates when they were distributed/sold and regardless of the shares sold to cover WHT. Is this calculation right?

In the country where I'm in (I don't know if this applies everywhere) taxes need to be paid if the profit is more than €500 and you've hold these shares for less than one year (which would be the case).

Again, this is a very basic math-related question and I'm not sure this fits here, but with tax calculation I prefer to be safe than sorry.

Thank you for your help!
