"Discord JUST filed for IPO - they're betting on a $15B+ valuation 🤯
Here’s what we know so far:
→ 200M+ monthly active users
→ Valued at $15B in its last funding round (2021)
→ $600M+ in annual revenue (estimated)
→ $500M raised in their last funding round
Discord started as a gaming chat app in 2015. Today, they host communities for everything: beatboxing, investing, AI, crypto, you name it.
Back in 2021, Discord rejected a $12B offer from Microsoft. Now, they’re going public, aiming for even higher valuation.
Here's what makes Discord different:
They’ve built a $600M+ business mostly without ads - something nearly unheard of at this scale.
While Meta, X, and TikTok are 90%+ ad-driven, Discord's core model is:
\- Nitro subscriptions ($9.99/mo)
\- Server boosts
\- Game distribution fees
They only introduced "Quests" (sponsored challenges) in 2024, years after hitting massive scale. Most platforms start with ads but Discord added them as a bonus, not a crutch.
The timing makes sense too. After a 3-year IPO freeze, the market is finally warming up. Tech IPOs raised $15.6B last year - double the year before - and Discord is riding that momentum!
If they go public anywhere near their $15B valuation, it’s a major validation of a subscription-first monetization model for social platforms. It shows you don’t have to run ads to build a billion-dollar consumer business." ( i found this post)
What do you think is a good evaluation to buy it when it launches?
We know Discord has no competition in gaming and , if we bet that they will go against Teams for businesses, they can get a high market for business meeting apps.
