Stocks as a savings account ?

I currently have a few portfolios. One that my wealth advisor runs with a monthly investment they take directly from my banking account, and a few others I run myself off my phone. One being with E*TRADE, and that one I find myself using more as almost a savings/banking account. I never intended it that way, but it seems to work very well for me. I keep about $30k in there and only purchase large mutual funds or well-established companies. For a little reference, I have BRK.B, QQQ, SPY, VOO in there, and a few others. Over the last few months, I have withdrawn or sold off shares a few times at a small profit when I needed money. Like last week, I needed $5k, I sold a bit, and boom, I had it the next day. Yesterday, I just happened to have a very good day financially and made $9k. I'm going to take my cost from it and pay for my guys and put the rest right back in. My question is, does anyone else find themselves doing this, and if so, is it smart? What are your opinions?
