Portfolio Check – Lost $200K in 2021-22, rebuilding now with $10K/month plan (Wealthsimple)
Hey Everyone,
I am rebuilding my investment portfolio after taking a big hit during the 2021-2022 crash(almost lost 200k). Back then I was very new to the stocks and not enough knowledge, was listening way too much to WSB I guess. I have had financials difficulties and had to file a consumer proposal. Lost mu business and house that I could not close in 2023. So last few years have been really tough, now I have restarted a new business and everything seems to be going okay so far.
My business is doing okay at the moment, and I can comfortably invest around $10K per month. I’ve set up recurring weekly buys in Wealthsimple (since that’s my main platform). I’m mostly focusing on Canadian-listed ETFs to avoid the forex fees that come with buying/selling U.S. ETFs.
Here is the list of my current holdings:
|Category|Holdings Included|Current Value|2× Value (After +100%)|% of Portfolio|
|:-|:-|:-|:-|:-|
|🇨🇦 **Canadian Equity**|XIC (TFSA + Non-Reg)|$6,717.35|**$13,434.70**|**18.5 %**|
|🇺🇸 **U.S. Equity**|VFV + TSLA + SOFI|$10,314.18|**$20,628.36**|**28.3 %**|
|🌍 **International Equity**|XEF|$8,257.78|**$16,515.56**|**22.6 %**|
|🌐 **Global / Mixed Equity**|VEQT|$7,543.03|**$15,086.06**|**20.7 %**|
|₿ **Crypto Assets**|BTC + ETH + SOL|$2,146.80|**$4,293.60**|**5.9 %**|
|💵 **Total Portfolio Value**||**$36,980**|**≈ $73,960 CAD**|**100 %**|
I do weekly auto buys:
\- VFV (S&P 500 exposure)
\- VEQT (Golbal equity)
\- XIC (Canadian market)
\- XEF (Global market)
\- A few individual positions : NVDA, TSLA, SOFI
\- Crypto: BTC, ETH, SOL, XRP (Small portion)
Total: about $3,400/week (\~$14K/month) split between TFSA, non-registered, and crypto.
I would like advice on:
\- Am I diversifying correctly, are there better options?
\- Is my allocation too equity-heavy?
\- Any suggestions on dividend stocks?
\- Should I do one or two ETFs only instead of these many?
I am just rebuilding my life and want to be careful, while making a good amount of investment towards our family's future. I don't want to do real-estate at all, not in next few years at least. Just want to start investing as much I can.
Any advice/critisim is welcomes. Please give your thought.
Thank you!
