Is there still room for charity tokens in 2025? Pawthereum’s model (0.5% per tx → animal shelters)
I’m looking for some honest takes from this sub on whether this model still has legs, or if the market just doesn’t care anymore.
There’s a token called Pawthereum ($PAWTH) that launched in 2021. It’s basically a charity-focused memecoin with a doxxed team. The basic setup:
* 0.5% of every transaction automatically goes into a public charity wallet.
* Holders vote with their $PAWTH on which animal shelter / rescue gets the next donation.
* Donations go toward real stuff (food, vet bills, etc.), and they’ve already donated close to \~$500K to animal charities around the world. All of that is supposedly verifiable on-chain.
They also recently transitioned the project over to Base in mid 2024, so the fees and treasury movement are happening on a cheaper L2 instead of just being some vague “we’ll donate later” promise.
A few questions I’d like opinions on:
1. Is “0.5% of every tx goes to charity” actually sustainable, or does it fall apart the moment trading volume cools off?
2. The voting is token-weighted (more $PAWTH = more say). Do you see that as legit community governance, or just whales deciding which shelter gets paid next?
3. Does this count as “real utility,” or at the end of the day is it still just a memecoin with better optics?
Not trying to hype it, I’m more asking: does crypto still reward this kind of model in 2025, or are we fully back to “launch, pump, vanish” culture?
