Unlisted stock question

I am executor for an estate. In the home i found a stock certificate for a small number of shares in an unlisted company purchased in the mid 80s. Has verbiage to the effect of " non accessable preferred.. transferable only on the books of company.. " i have questions.

I think i have located the company.. but there are several similarly named companies across the U.S. Still.. it is likely the one in the state the decedent lived in. I assume that since i have the certificate that it has not been transferred. I am not sure how i go about evaluating it for liquidation.

I do have a lawyer involved.. but .. based on the number of shares, i am guessing that tasking them will cost more than the sale value. I have a similar problem with a couple u.s. bonds that need redemption.. but that seems straight forward. Any advise on how to proceed?

To complicate things.. the stock is in the names of both husband and wife. Both are now deceased. I am executor for the one that died last.
