SEC just fast-tracked altcoin etfs - solana and XRP could launch as early as october
The SEC just slashed their ETF approval timeline from 270 days down to 75 days. Now financial firms are scrambling to update their filings to take advantage of the faster process.
companies like canary capital and vaneck are already updating their submissions. Canary's founder said they have "about a dozen filings with the sec now, and more coming."
Solana and xrp etfs are reportedly first in line to launch, potentially as soon as october. These would be the first altcoin etfs to hit the market after bitcoin and ethereum.
There's a catch though. To qualify for the expedited 75-day review, the underlying asset has to already trade on a regulated market or have regulated futures contracts for at least six months.
bitwise president mentioned their filings are already "far along in the review process" so some of these might move faster than expected.
VanEck's digital assets director said "not all of our existing filings qualify" for the fast track, so they're working with lawyers to figure out which products can move forward quickly.
This could trigger a wave of altcoin etf launches if the first ones are successful. institutional access to crypto markets is expanding beyond just btc and eth.
The timing makes sense with the current regulatory environment becoming more crypto-friendly. Firms want to be first to market with these products.
one angle people overlook is the tax side. etfs mean more structured inflows and outflows, and anyone trading around these products is going to face reporting complexity once multiple assets are in play. tools like awaken.tax make it easier to stay compliant without manually tracking every move across exchanges and funds.
october is only a few weeks away, so we'll see if these timelines actually hold up or if there are any last-minute regulatory hurdles.
anyone think sol and xrp etfs will see the same kind of institutional demand that bitcoin etfs got?
