Why the emphasis on international or small cap like AVUV. What am I missing?

I look at FTIHX from 2018 - $12 a share. It's now $16 a share.

AVUV in 2019: $49-54 a share. It's now $100.

VOO in 2019 - $260-270. It's now $600.

I'd just like to know what I'm missing...am I not looking at the bigger picture? It seems like VOO the most profitable by far.
