ETH is stuck because of L2 leverage, fake volume, and no real demand

ETH price isn’t moving, and a big part of it goes back to how the Ethereum Foundation helped create the L2 ecosystem. A lot of ETH was lent or allocated off-exchange to bootstrap rollups like Matic, Optimism, Arbitrum, StarkNet, etc. The goal was vertical scaling and more transaction throughput without stressing mainnet.

But here’s the issue: most of these L2s didn’t take off. Real usage is weak. Most activity is short-term (airdrops, farming), and their tokens are easy to manipulate, low market cap, thin liquidity. That made it tempting to artificially pump them and inflate transaction volume, which gets mirrored back onto Ethereum mainnet as if it’s legit demand. It’s not.

Meanwhile, ETH is locked in staking or buried in contracts, so there's no real spot pressure. No liquidation risk, no reflexive price movement. Smart money saw the setup and shorted. Retail never came back. NFTs are dead, DeFi’s stale, and ETH just flatlined.

The worst part? While this was happening, the ETH Foundation sold near local tops. Retail took the exit bags.

And while Ethereum focused on fragmented L2s, **Solana quietly scaled vertically, on a single chain, and took the market**. It’s now eating ETH’s lunch in active users, stablecoin velocity, and developer mindshare. Even **Sui**, of all things, is starting to eat into ETH’s dominance. The market’s moving on.

ETH might bounce a bit during altseason, but the structural issues aren’t going away.

Whole L2 non-sense backfired, pretty bad.
