Lately, this sub’s been feeling more like *Macroeconomics Weekly* than a place to talk stocks. Politics, cargo shipments, Fed tea leaf reading; all fair game, I suppose.
But I figured I’d bring the conversation back to what we’re actually here for: stocks.
Over the past few months, I’ve seen all kinds of reactions to the market: folks moving into European stocks, backing the truck up on DCA, going full cash, flipping back and forth like it’s Wimbledon.
So I’m curious, what’s your actual strategy right now? Are you buying more? Sitting on cash? Looking overseas? Trying to outguess the macro gods or just keeping it simple? Just tuning out the noise and staying the course?
I'll start with myself:
I’m currently in “sit back and chill” mode. About 33% of my portfolio is in cash - a pile I built up back when the market was charging to all-time highs. I wasn’t chasing then, and I’m not panicking now. I’ve dipped into that cash a bit over the past month to buy a few long-term names I plan to hold for a very long time.
I’ll be honest though, sitting back and doing nothing is incredibly boring. But the boring stuff is often where the money is made apparently. To take the edge off, I’ve been focusing on sharpening my skills at work, getting through a few great books, and naturally - reading all the wild Reddit predictions for entertainment.
My portfolio today is made up of just four stocks: a concentrated mix I feel very comfortable with. One of them (a Mag 7 name) now makes up nearly half my portfolio. I couldn’t ignore the valuation opportunity back at the start of April. The rest includes one large-cap and two mid-caps that I’ve built conviction in over time.
For now, I’m not dancing in and out. Most of the stocks I’m watching are back near highs, so I’m content building the cash pile again. If the market keeps rising? Great, I’m already participating. If it drops? Even better, I’ll have dry powder ready.
Just to be clear - not looking for a six-paragraph macro thesis on why a crash is coming, or why we’re doomed, or why your strategy is superior to everyone else’s.
I’m genuinely curious: what are you doing in this market?
Buying? Holding? Waiting for blood in the streets?
Whatever your strategy - investing, trimming, or just chilling: wishing everyone steady hands and clear thinking.
