Sooner or later:
1. Trump will fire Jerome Powell
2. Scott Bessent (Secretary of the Treasury) will resign
Trump has followed through on nearly everything he promised since he began campaigning. He has massive support, nothing to lose, and he hates losing.
Tariffs aren’t delivering the results the administration had hoped for. They wanted lower yields, but instead, yields are rising and bond prices are falling. China isn't cooperating—in fact, we're seeing the beginnings of a full-fledged trade war involving multiple nations. Trump isn’t one to back down. Now that he’s brought up firing Powell several times, it’s just a matter of time.
Scott Bessent is often described as the only “adult in the room.” He was George Soros’s chief strategist during the Bank of England crisis and is a well-respected figure on Wall Street. With everything going on, he may start to feel it’s damaging to his reputation. I believe he’ll resign—it’s just a matter of time.
Those are my predictions. Don’t bash me if they don’t come true—I’m just putting this out there for healthy discussion.
