Reading how some of the elite earned a ton of money off the stock market yesterday, but doesn't that mean that an equal amount was lost by others? For example, if someone made $500M yesterday does that mean that some group of people collectively lost $500M yesterday? I'm guessing it isn't quite a zero sum game, but surely some large amount of money was lost somewhere to counter this gain, $500M didn't just appear out of thin air.
I understand that all of these theatrics and manipulation is bad for us in the long run, but guess I'm looking for yesterday's immediate losers. If by a miracle from this day forward the market jumps back to where it was and then behaves normally and we also end up avoiding a recession, who got screwed because of yesterday's gains?
