Betting for a bear market

I, for one, do not feel positive about the next few years in the market. I have zero confidence in trump and also the entire GOP. And I've voted GOP more than dem, by far, in my earlier life. I swear, I think this bunch is absolutely corrupt. Aside politics, I am also not optimistic about the future, in general regarding resources and how we, as a species, are so hellbent on consumerism and perpetual growth. It doesn't seem possible. And then there is climate change, which seems real to me. Based on what I see happening and all the reading I do.

What about 'investing' in a 'short' for months/years via a 1x inverse index fund? If so, which one? A 2x seems too risky in that if you have a few/several bullish sessions in a row, it could wipe you out due to the 2x but a 1x would be much more tolerable and less likely to be disastrous. Would love to hear comments on how to do this. Or not. TIA!
