If there is 0 demand for US goods, will there still be a trade imbalance?
Although demand will truly never go to zero, countries and people will prioritize spending locally and with their allies ( I don’t count the U S here) that respect them. At the point where tariffs are so high, that selling in the U S is impractical, doesn’t the trade going to zero mean no trade imbalance? Again, extreme example, but demand will fall, affordability will fall. It is an inevitable consequence of tariffs that it will hurt demand and stifle innovation. Please if you disagree with that last assertion, explain how a closed market brings innovation.
