I hate Trump as much as the other guy. But gotta hand it to Trump, he’s got balls.
So I’ve been following all the main pundits about tariffs. They all seem to agree thar Trump is mad. No matter how much I want to give into this rage, this is a mistake. Trump might be mad, but we gotta ask what’s the nature of this madness.
Yesterday JD Vance gave an interview on Fox and said that “We are paying for Chinese peasants”. Everyone knew that a confrontation between China and USA had to come sometime. If there’s bipartisan agreement in USA about anything, it’s that it “screw 🇨🇳”. I think of the tariffs in this sense.
Trump walked back on Vietnam tariffs after Vietnam talked with him. But this isn’t going to ever happen with China imo. This is the moment they lock horns. If you know Hegel’s famous master slave dialectic, this is the moment two meet face to face and the fight for recognition happens. The one who backs down loses. Neither can afford to back down. So this is a decisive break and things won’t go back to normal. Again, I think this was always gonna happen but when it does happen you are disoriented for a time because you refuse to admit that the old world is gone.
So I don’t think we are even close to the bottom. There’s a lot of other stuff to break I think. Very glad to have holes poked in this.
