Why are reciprocal tariffsfrom US viewed as bad while the original tariffs against the US are not

I don't fully understand why retaliatory tariffs are shaking up so much anger. Why is it OK for the US to be tariffed by other countries but implementing 50% of a countries tariff against the US back to them is looked at as evil.

I am not trying to be on either side of this argument politically, i am just trying to understand why can one country tariff US but US cannot tariff back.

I understand this way "the way" things have been for a while and it is causing a major shake up.
