This is beyond outrageous. Trump used funny math to justify cartoonish numbers. These rates are entirely unsustainable. Truthfully, I’d be more worried if they were rational and measured. That might signal a more long term shift. These numbers just piss everyone off. I see three options:
1. Trade war. Trump sticks to his guns. Double downs. Recession comes. Economic downturn. Stagflation. He’s forced to pivot course. Or both sides of the aisle come together to stop the bleeding. “It’s the economy stupid.” Republicans won’t watch themselves bear the blame for a shit economy.
2. Trump negotiates for minimal concessions. Removes these by June, December at the latest. Proclaims himself the greatest negotiator ever. The soft landing/recovery continues. And he returns to villainizing transgenders, illegals, and the Libs
3. He walks these back next Tuesday. Places a new date probably on Juneteenth or something. He call’s it Emancipation day. And we do this dance again. But this time businesses markets and the world are privy to his bullshit and we can relax knowing he’s full of shit
