Pump and Dump Alert: GEO Group Stock Likely to Drop Post-Election Surge
In the wake of Trump’s election bump, GEO Group stock has soared with investor enthusiasm around potential policy changes favoring private detention facilities. But here’s a reality check: GEO’s recent financials and guidance aren’t exactly glowing, and the stock may have already topped out.
**Financial Performance & Guidance Highlights:**
GEO reported a tiny revenue uptick for Q3 2024—barely enough to call it growth—and profits aren’t surging in any meaningful way. Notably, GEO’s Electronic Monitoring segment took a hit, with declining participant numbers under the federal ISAP program, a trend that shows a soft spot in their revenue streams. Despite the election excitement, these are hardly the signs of a booming business.
**Why It’s Likely to Drop:**
1. **Policy Changes Take Time:** Even if the new administration does make stricter immigration policies a priority, real changes could take \*\*years\*\* to enact, making this bump more speculative than sustainable.
2. **Financial Weakness:** Flat revenues and a decline in critical monitoring programs expose GEO’s vulnerability. This isn’t the growth trajectory of a company about to thrive.
3. **Speculation Bubble:** Much of the recent surge feels like a hype-driven pump rather than solid fundamentals. Once the speculative enthusiasm wanes, expect a reality check and a potential sharp drop.
4. **Analyst Downgrades:** The stock is being downgraded by equity analysts after this hype pump. Institutions are trimming which means retail is going to be holding the bag on this.
**Bottom Line:**
While the stock might look tempting post-election, the underlying business just isn’t there. It's overbought by a longshot and the professional investors already know that.
**Position:** I am short 1,956 shares at an average cost basis of $25.31.
